CLINTON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies and SLED agents captured a prisoner who fled from a Department of Corrections work crew near Clinton on Thursday, according to Laurens County officials.

Sheriff Ricky Chastain said deputies were notified at about noon about the escape and were out looking for the female prisoner in the area of Exit 54 along Interstate 26.

The prisoner was identified as 46-year-old Kimberly Collins.

Collins was taken into custody in the woods near the Comfort Suites on Highway 56 in Clinton just before 6 p.m.

According to Stephanie Givens with the Department of Corrections, Collins was serving a three-year sentence after being convicted of two counts of shoplifting in May.
