HENDERSONVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

A Hendersonville police officer who was stabbed by a suspect is back home and recovering.

Two officers were responding to a call for service on Sunday at an apartment above the Like New consignment store on Third Avenue near Church Street when a man stabbed Sgt. Kenny Hipps, according to Chief Herbert Blake.

Hipps was taken to the hospital in serious condition while a second officer shot the suspect, killing him.

The man that was killed was identified as 46-year-old Adrian Eugene King.

Since then, Hipps nor Officer Jennifer Drake have returned to normal duties as of yet.

"We are looking forward to their return," Blake said.
