Downtown Greenville violinist playing again

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A popular Greenville street musician made a deal with the city so that he can continue performing with his electric violin.

Jeff Neil made a living playing his violin in downtown Greenville until the city shut him down.

For more than a year, Neil said he would plant himself on a sidewalk downtown and play his electric violin for people passing by. He was able to perform downtown until a recent ordinance was put in place ending that.

Now, the city has granted him a permit to play downtown. He's just not allowed to play near restaurant patios so that he does not disturb customers.

Neil enjoys his job and is pleased to be able to continue.

"You know I'm just so thankful for the past year and a half and I'm just glad that we could compromise and have an outcome where everyone is happy," Neil said.

Neil said his next performance is this Friday at 5 p.m. in front on the Sticky Fingers on Main Street.
