GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The South Carolina Raptors Elite 4th Grade basketball team finished second in a national tournament.

The team, which came together last year, fell short by just 5 points in the YBOA National Tournament in Orlando, Florida.

This year the group won a state championship title and won more than 30 games against teams in their age group.

Head coach Brent Edgerton is impressed with how skilled the boys are on the court.

"You would think that they've been together since they're in preschool the way they play together, the way they interact," said Edgerton. "It's really special seeing them evolve. They actually start to know what each other's going to do on the floor and that's a by-product of them becoming friends off the floor."

Edgerton said the team's success on the court wouldn't happen without the help of sponsors, including Combine Training in Greenville.

Director of Combine Training, George Burgess, said the kids are "very coachable", just one reason he signed on to train them.

"They play well above their years. It's special watching them play. Anybody that appreciates basketball, it's a special brand of basketball. It's not just running around in circles looking for the basket. They really play the game the way it's supposed to be played at an early age," said Burgess.

The team is one of 35 Raptors in the Carolinas.

Edgerton also says the players are aces in the classroom. Everyone got at least one "A" in school this year.
