SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies in Spartanburg County said an Inman man is accused of attacking another man with a hatchet.

Deputies said they were called to a home on Johnson Road just before 2 a.m. Sunday morning, where the victim said he went out to investigate an unfamiliar SUV that was parked in front of the house.

When the victim approached the vehicle, he said Caleb Marlow began swinging a hatchet at him.

According to arrest reports, the victim said Marlow struck him in the head and the right hand with the hatchet and then drove off.

Deputies said Marlow, 23, of Inman, emerged from behind a bush on the side of Johnson Road while deputies were interviewing witnesses.

Deputies said Marlow was taken into custody and denied having been at the victim's residence earlier. He was charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.

Marlow was released from the Spartanburg County Detention Center later Sunday morning on bond.
