Franklin: Greater rain chances, Gulf watch

Updated:
NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Rain coverage looks to increase Friday as a weak cold front moves into the area.

It looks as though the front will remain to our north, but close enough to trigger abundant showers and storms with locally heavy rainfall in some areas.

We should become a little drier for the weekend, but still expect afternoon storms.

We are watching a wave in south Florida enter the Gulf this weekend. Most models maintain the wave will remain just that as it continues moving westward.

Models that do develop the system further keep it as a weak depression or storm. Impacts to us could be greater rain coverage by Sunday and Monday if it moves closer to the northern Gulf coast.

Another front next week will likely increase rain chances once again.
