SOUTHINGTON, CT (WFSB) -

A time-lapse video of the two bridges on I-84 in Southington was released on Monday.

The $6 million project two replace the bridges that go over Marion Avenue in Southington was completed at the end of June, hours ahead of when it was expected to be completed.

A press release said the engineering and construction process was known as "ABC," which stands for Accelerated Bridge Construction.

The bridges were built at the construction site on Marion Avenue and were lifted into place after the old bridges were removed.

This part of I-84 in Southington was shut down during the weekend of June 28 and 29.

"This project not only demonstrates the unprecedented investments we are making to improve and modernize our transportation infrastructure but also the steps we are taking to ensure these kinds of projects are completed ahead of schedule and with as little interruption as possible to area residents and travelers," Governor Dannel Malloy said in a press release.

Malloy also said that the ABC construction process was a creative approach taken, rather than replacing the bridge a different way which could have taken several months or even years to complete.

One weekend closure was required to replace and install the two new 102' long bridges that each weighed about 2 million pounds.

This project was the first time this technique was used on a large-scale construction project in the state, the release said.
