Police: Off-duty officer pistol-whipped, robbed at gunpoint

SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Two men have been arrested in the armed robbery of an off-duty Spartanburg police officer, according to the Spartanburg Police Department.

On Sunday, police responded to the Corners Apartments on Fernwood Drive in reference to an armed robbery.

Police spoke with the victim, a 23-year-old off-duty officer with the city, who said he was getting belongings out of his vehicle when he was approached by two men who demanded his wallet, debit card and book bag, according to police.

Police said one of the suspects pointed a gun at the off-duty officer and struck him in the head with it before getting away with his belongings.

Through a description given by the victim of the suspects and their vehicle, police said they were able to arrest 22-year-old Antoine Shields and 23-year-old Tobias Rogers.

Both are charged with armed robbery, according to online jail records.

Rogers is also facing a first-degree assault and battery charge and a fraud charge, according to jail records.
