ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

A 10-year-old is facing multiple charges after fire officials say the child set fire to a vehicle that spread to an occupied home.

Public information officer Kelley Klope with the Asheville Fire Department said crews responded to Monty Street where a fire had been set in a vehicle on Sunday.

Klope said the fire spread to another vehicle and then ignited a nearby home.

Arson investigators determined that other vehicles in the area had been broken into with small fires being set in them, according to Klope.

Klope said there was no significant damage in the other vehicles.

The 10-year-old suspect was taken into custody the same day and is being charged with eight counts of felony breaking and entering motor vehicles, four counts of burning of personal property and first-degree arson, Klope said.

The child is being held at the juvenile detention facility.
