MARBLEHEAD, MA (WSHM) -

A 58-year-old Westfield man drowned while scuba diving on the Massachusetts coast Tuesday morning.

The Essex District Attorney's Office said the man was scallop diving about 2 miles off Marblehead Harbor. He was with two other men near Satan's Rock in Salem Sound behind Children's Island, according to CBS Boston.

At about 10:15 a.m., the driver of the boat alerted the Marblehead Harbormaster of a "diver down" after one diver failed to surface.

A Marblehead Public Safety boat and the Marblehead Harbormaster Patrol Boats responded along with the Salem Harbormasters, the state Environmental Police, the Beverly Fire Department Dive Rescue team, and the Coast Guard out of Gloucester, and the state police dive team recovered the body about 2:30 p.m.

While foul play is not suspected, the circumstances of the man's death remain under investigation.

Authorities have not identified the victim pending notification of his family.
