SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Police said a traffic stop on the suspected car involved in the robbery of a Spartanburg Wells Fargo led to the arrest of the accused thief on Tuesday.

Spartanburg police were called to the bank branch on W.O. Ezell Boulevard at 9:24 a.m. on Monday after they said a man held up the bank at gunpoint.

Police said they stopped a car along Blackstock Road at Interstate 26 that matched the  description involved in the robbery. They said the license plate was registered to a 1989 Mercedes though it was a Ford Fusion.

The driver's license was suspended and he was arrested, police said. The police report said they also found what was believed to be heroin on him.

Initially, officers charged the driver James Turner III, 28, with driving under suspension, expired vehicle tag and possession of a schedule II narcotic.

Police said they were able to identify Turner as the suspect who wore a raincoat, women's sunglasses and surgical mask during the robbery and charged him with possession of a weapon during a violent crime and robbery.

According to police, Michael James, 28, was driving the getaway car for Turner and was wanted on a robbery charge as well.

He was located on Wednesday afternoon at the hospital.

Police said James was involved in a vehicle collision on Tuesday night and was being treated at the hospital.

Police said the crash was not connected to the robbery investigation.

On Wednesday night, police were speaking with James, but he had not been placed under arrest.
