GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A man who suffered a gunshot wound outside a Greenville County nightclub Wednesday morning has been charged.

Deputy Drew Pinciaro said deputies were called to Element 91 on Halton Road just before 1:30 a.m. after reports of a shooting came in.

When deputies arrived they found a man, who they later identified as Richard Allen Pou, lying in the parking lot with at least one gunshot wound, according to Pinciaro.

Pou was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Pinciaro said.

Pinciaro said investigators learned that Pou had been kicked out of the club for fighting before the shooting.

After being kicked out, Pinciaro said Pou retrieved a handgun from his vehicle.

According to Pinciaro, Pou was then seen by a security guard with the handgun running back towards the front of the club.

He said the security guard, who was also armed, confronted Pou and ordered him to drop the gun.

Pou didn't drop the gun and continued pointing it at the guard, Pinciaro said.

Pinciaro said, in fear of his safety, the security guard fired at Pou, striking him.

Pou has been charged with pointing and presenting a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm, according to Pinciaro.

He said Pou will be transported to the detention center once he is released from the hospital.

According to Pinciaro, the security guard is licensed through SLED and is not being charged in the incident.
