WILSON: 7-year-old dies in shooting in Wilson - FOX Carolina 21

Police: Shot that killed 7-year-old did not come from inside home

WILSON, N.C. -

A 7-year-old boy has died after being shot at a home near Parkview Street in Wilson Wednesday night.

Wilson police received a shooting around 9:50 p.m. at a home at Parkview Street and Starmount Circle.

When they arrived, officers found a 7-year-old boy who had sustained a gunshot wound. Police said the shot did not originate inside the home and are treating the investigation as a shooting into an occupied dwelling.

Police said the child was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, where he died from his injuries.

Police said no one else was injured in the shooting.

Residents in the Forrest Road Homes unit said the violence has shaken the entire community.  Some are thinking of moving.

"It's not the best area you can be in and at the crime rate Wilson is in right now, it's not a shock to me," said Peggy Edwards. "There is so much shooting going on gang related stuff, you just never know.  I am just so ready to move."

Edwards describes the boy as a sweet and peaceful boy and she's praying his killer is brought to justice.

"This is somebody's child who got lost," she said. "I know his mother is very hurt right now and if that were me, I would want justice behind it because that's a small child. He didn't ask to be here. He didn't ask for his life to be taken just like that."

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Wilson Police Department at (252) 399-2323 or CrimeStoppers (252) 243-2255.
