A crash in Shelton left behind a lot of damage after a car slammed into a gas pump.

It happened at the Mont's Mart gas station on Leavenworth Road on Wednesday night.

Police identified the driver of the Mazda as 41-year-old Susan Linnane of Derby.

On Thursday, drivers pulled into the station and had to turn around because the pumps were closed for repairs.

Police said the whole thing started on Route 110. Linnane lost control while traveling south on Leavenworth Road and struck another vehicle. She then barreled through a guard rail and crashed into the pump.

Eyewitness News cameras captured video of the car on its side. Firefighters said they were worried that fuel could cause an even bigger problem at any moment.

Luckily, nothing happened, they said.

They were able to cut the Linnane out of the car and take her to the hospital. She suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Police said she was conscious and spoke with them.

"I come here, late shift, and would have been changing garbage cans," said Anthony Torraco, a BP attendant who said he was lucky he was off that night. "And seeing a car come flying at you, that would have been nuts."

The store portion of the station and the Dunkin' Donuts remained open. They were not damaged by the crash.

However, drivers were being told to stay away from the pumps.

As of Thursday morning, one of them had already been ripped out and replaced. There was no word on a timetable for when repairs would be completed.
