GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The community activist group "Put Down The Guns Young People" is headed to Chicago to spread their message of putting an end to gun violence.

Group leader Jack Logan was part of a group that took off from Greenville on Wednesday evening.  The group is driving to Chicago and will spend the weekend meeting with community leaders and passing out literature.

The trip comes on the heels of rampant gun violence in Chicago.  Since July 1, dozens have either been killed or injured on the city's streets.

Logan said he's going at the expense of his personal safety.

"God gave me that calling, gave me that vision," said Logan.  "I feel like I'm not going to be in harm's way because he's got me covered."

Logan said this is the first of several trips they have planned to Chicago.
