SALUDA, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Rescue crews from ten PolK County agencies were called in  Saturday afternoon to rescue a hiker who had fallen while rappelling down a waterfall.

Rescuers said the hiker dislocated his knee while rappelling down Big Bradley Falls, a 90-foot waterfall located in a dangerous area.

Crews harnessed the man and pulled him back up the cliff and carried him back out of the trail on a stretcher.

At the trailhead, rescue crews said the injured hiker declined further medical attention and was able to walk away.

A North Carolina tourism website cautions hikers about the dangers of Big Bradley falls, noting that the trail is primitive and treacherous near the top of the falls.

Officials said several people have died near the waterfall and signs are posted warning hikers of the dangers.
