SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said a body was found beside a CSX railway between Crescent Avenue and South Church Street on Sunday afternoon.

According to Clevenger, the body was spotted lying beside the tracks by a passing train crew.

Clevenger identified the man as 52-year-old Ray Thompson, of Spartanburg.

He said Thompson's home is about 200 yards from where his body was found, and he was using a trail through the woods and across the tracks as a daily cut through.

An autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death.

There's no evidence to suggest the death is the result of the downtown train derailment earlier this week, investigators said.
