POWDERSVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Powdersville highway has reopened after troopers said a drunken driver knocked down power lines during an early morning accident Tuesday.

Utility crews had SC 81 closed between Pine and Cely roads, which is between SC 86 and SC 153, for several hours following the crash.

Throughout the morning, drivers were turned around as crews worked to repair power, cable and phone lines. Power was restored earlier in the morning to all but two homes after the one-car crash.

Cpl. Bill Rhyne with the Highway Patrol said the initial accident happened at 12:35 a.m. when a 25-year-old Easley man ran off the road, hitting the power pole.

Rhyne said the driver, Kiefer Jones, was not injured but was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

The road was back open by 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
