GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Schemm family was supposed to go to Mexico to celebrate.

"I'm about to turn 40. We just celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary and our triplets just shared a 10th birthday," said Julia Schemm.

"This is the largest vacation we were ever gonna be on," said her husband, Kevin Schemm.

All packed up and loaded into their Suburban, the Schemms headed for Charlotte, staying at Embassy Suites Hotel on Tryon Street.

The family was not at all worried about their luggage.

"Most of our fears were maybe airport fears and Mexico fears," said Julia Schemm.

The morning they were to fly out of Charlotte her husband had loaded the luggage into the car and the family got ready to head to the airport.

"The luggage was in the car for a total of 10 minutes," said Kevin Schemm.

That's when somebody pulled a fast one.

"In that little amount of time, somebody had broken into the car. They popped the lock and stole our luggage and our passports," said Kevin Schemm.

Police in Charlotte are investigating, but the family had to cancel their vacation.
