Posted: Updated:
PICKENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Pickens police officer at the center of a SLED investigation has resigned, according to the mayor.

Pickens Mayor David Owens said the officer resigned on July 21 after he was accused of sexually assaulting a woman while on duty.

The city of Pickens suspended the officer without pay after an allegation of misconduct in office involving a woman was made in June.

The victim told FOX Carolina's Cody Alcorn the officer sexually assaulted her outside the Coin Laundry on Hampton Avenue in Pickens.

The officer's name has not been released. The State Law Enforcement Division investigation is ongoing.
