Coroner: Gaffney woman dies 4 days after falling from moving golf cart

GAFFNEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Gaffney woman has died several days after falling from a moving golf cart.

Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler said 52-year-old Melanie Whisenant was a front seat passenger on a golf cart being driven by her husband just before midnight on Saturday.

"Mr. Whisenant said as he turned onto Fernwood Drive off East O'Neal Street, his wife reached down to get something out of her purse that was on the floorboard when she fell out and struck the pavement. The victim was transported from the scene to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center where she was admitted to the neuro intensive care unit," Fowler said.

He said the woman sustained a head injuries in the incident.

Melanie Whisenant died at the hospital on Wednesday.

Fowler said an autopsy is planned.
