GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Amidst Thursday's heavy rainfall, part of the roof on Harvest Hope Food Bank collapsed, sending water rushing into part of the building and causing some damage.

The nonprofit organization said water damaged portions of the White Horse Road location, including the engine room and section of the 52-year-old building where food is donated, sorted and inspected, but no food was damaged.

They said the system critical to providing refrigeration for perishable food is located in the engine room.

Crews will have to repair the roof immediately, according to the warehouse manager. He said a patch would cost about $7,000 to $8,000 and a new roof is estimated to cost up to $500,000. A roofer will be out to assess the damage on Friday. He said the building is covered under insurance.

The staff is working to make sure the food inventory is not affected by the leak and emergency food is delivered to those in need.
