WEST PELZER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The West Pelzer police said a chase ended in a crash in Greenville County Friday night.

The vehicle that was being pursued by an officer reached 104 mph before it hit a guard rail and flipped into a scrap yard on South Piedmont Highway near Parker Road, according to the West Pelzer police Chief Mike Clardy.

Clardy said the driver has substantial injuries, but none of them are believed to be life threatening.

Investigators said the driver was being pursued after showing a gun at a Burger King in Piedmont.

Once the chase moved into West Pelzer, officers in that jurisdiction took over the pursuit, and Williamston police were also assisting, according to Clardy.

Clardy said the driver turned off his lights to avoid detection, hit a curve and then crashed into a guardrail.

A gun was found in the wrecked vehicle, according to Clardy.

The name of the driver has not been released.
