IVA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Thomas Miller, the chief of police in Iva who was suspended after being arrested in late July, has resigned.

Councilman Kenneth Norwood confirmed that Miller resigned Saturday, a day before council had scheduled a special meeting to discuss Miller's employment.

Anderson County deputies charged Miller with criminal domestic violence assault and battery third degree July 26 after an incident at Miller's home.

Miller was subsequently suspended and town officials named Capt. Jason Hawkins as the interim chief pending the outcome of the investigation.

Norwood said council will likely discuss the vacant chief of police position during the next regularly scheduled town council meeting.

Miller had served as the Iva police chief since 2007.
