Deputies are investigating after a Spartanburg County community's welcome sign was vandalized.

Deputies said a neighborhood watch group reported that the sign at the intersection of Coopertown and Cowpens Clifton Roads in the Clifton community had been vandalized.

Deputies said an unknown suspect sprayed the message "east side 12" along with an obscenity on the sign using green spray paint.

Deputies said a gang symbol had also been spray painted on the opposite side of the sign.
