GREENWOOD, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Firefighters said a Dollar General store in Greenwood was heavily damaged after an electrical fire.

Chief Woody Owensby with the Coronaca Fire Department said customers began smelling smoke in the store on Highway 72 Sunday afternoon.

Owensby said a customer reported seeing flames coming from the back of the building and management began evacuating the store.

Six area fire departments were called to the scene and spent about an hour battling the blaze, Ownesby said.

The fire was mostly contained to the stock room and the back wall of the store, but Owensby said almost everything inside the store was a total loss due to heavy heat, smoke, and water damage.
