ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

More than 40 firefighters battled a blaze at an Asheville doctor's office Monday.

The Asheville Fire Department said they were called to the large fire at Biltmore Family Medicine at 3:30 a.m., which is located on Saint Dunstans Road off of Biltmore Avenue.

AFD spokesperson Kelley Klope said a neighbor called in the fire and crews arrived to find the building fully engulfed in flames.

She said the building was an older home built in 1922 and was later converted to a family medical practice with offices on both floors.

As fire spread through the structure, Klope said firefighters were forced to respond defensively at times before the fire was extinguished by 5:15 a.m. She said the fire damaged both floors.

There is no word yet what may have caused the fire, but Klope said they believe it may have started on the first floor and there is nothing suspicious at this point in the investigation.

She said no one was inside at the time the fire broke out and no one was injured.

Firefighters removed any items including medical records, computers and medicine that could be salvaged from the building. Klope said the office will contact patients to let them know what happens next.
