SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The owner of Main Street Pub in Spartanburg is accused of failing to report more than $725,000 worth of sales to the state, according to the department of revenue.

A spokesperson for the South Carolina Department of Revenue said Rajarshi Patel, 31, owns RRS Holdings LLC, operating as Main Street Pub in Spartanburg County.

From August 2010 to July 2013, DOR said Patel filed false sales tax returns and false liquor by the drink excise tax returns for the bar.

In wake of the tax evasion investigation, DOR said Patel was arrested on eight counts of felony tax evasion.

DOR said Patel did not report approximately $238,945 of gross sales and $489,805 in gross sales of liquor during the 36-month period, resulting in a loss of more than $36,826 of sales and liquor taxes owed the state.

Patel was arrested and released on bond on Wednesday and if convicted, faces up to 40 years in prison and up to $80,000 in fines.
