SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A group of women who call themselves Dublin Girls Run say a security guard told them they couldn't pray before going for a walk around the mall.

Group co-founder Tammy Brantley posted on her Facebook page that this all happened a few weeks ago at the Dublin mall in Dublin, GA, outside of Augusta.

Brantley said her group is made up of Christian women who like to exercise together.

Brantley's post has stirred national interest in the story and force a reply from MCK Properties that runs the Dublin mall.

The reply posted on MCK's Facebook page says the group violated mall policy by congregating. The full post can be read here.

FOX Carolina talked with walkers at Cleveland Park in Spartanburg who said what happened to the women in Dublin was wrong.

"The word of God says we must pray all the time," said John Ferguson, who was out walking with his family in the park on Wednesday.

Kimberly McElvey said she is ready in case her faith is ever questioned.

"I would respond politely, " McElvey said. "But I would let them know that this is my faith and I can pray here and I will pray for that guard."

FOX Carolina reached out to Simon properties who runs the Haywood mall, Anderson mall and the Gaffney outlets to see what their policy was on prayer in their facilities. Simon declined to comment.

A representative for Westgate mall in Spartanburg said no one will be bothered for praying as long as they follow the mall's code of conduct that can be found on their website here.

A prayer vigil has been planned for Thursday evening at the mall in Dublin.
