SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Firefighters with the Cowpens Fire Department are hoping you'll join them for pizza Thursday evening, as they try to raise money for fellow first-responder, Patrick Schultz, who was severely injured in a plane crash this past May.

The fundraiser is taking place from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Pizza Inn Hillcrest, located at 2225 E Main St., Spartanburg.

"10 percent of all of tonight's sales between 5 and 8, plus any tips earned by the firefighters, will go directly to the Patrick Schultz Relief Fund," said Ann McConnell who manages the pizza restaurant.

Ann said firefighters will be working alongside her staff during the fundraiser, taking orders and serving pizza.

"I hope they all wear extra big smiles and make lots of tips," McConnell said.

Schultz, who is a career firefighter with the Pelham-Batesville Fire Department and volunteer firefighter with the Cowpens Department, is facing a long road to recovery.

Over Memorial Day weekend, Schultz was vacationing with family in Panama City, FL, when the plane he was piloting crashed, killing his mother, aunt and nephew.

Schultz survived the crash, but suffered severe burns over 40 percent of his body. He has spent the last two months undergoing 14 surgeries at the Augusta Burn Unit. He returned to the Upstate on July 25, but will need ongoing treatments.

In addition to area fundraisers, a fund has also been set up in Schultz' name.

Donations to the Firefighter Patrick Schultz Relief Fund can be made through any branch of the First Citizens Bank.
