ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A man who pleaded guilty to the 2013 murder of his estranged wife was sentenced in an Anderson County General Session Court on Thursday.

Solicitor Chrissy Adams said 45-year-old Robert John Hurl was sentenced to 40 years for murder, 30 years for each of two counts of attempted murder and 10 years for unlawful conduct toward a child. All of which will be served concurrently.

On July 19, 2013, Brenda and Robert Hurl got into an argument while Brenda Hurl was picking up their 10-year-old son from a home where Robert Hurl was staying.

During the argument, the child ran upstairs and the owner of the home, a friend and co-worker of Brenda Hurl's, went down to intervene.

Adams said Robert Hurl then shot Brenda Hurl multiple times in the head.

The homeowner was also shot multiple times in the incident, and shots were fired at the homeowner's girlfriend, but she was uninjured, according to Adams.

Adams said Robert Hurl later gave a video statement to law enforcement admitting to the murder.

"Robert Hurl violently murdered not only his estranged wife, but the mother of his own child. His actions have left that child without a mother and inflicted great emotional trauma which no child should have to endure," said Adams. "Our prayers are with the child and the other victims in this case as they recover from an incredibly vicious crime."
