SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Police arrested multiple alleged drug dealers and buyers about one tenth of a mile from the Springfield Police Department headquarters Thursday morning.

Authorities began receiving complaints from fed up neighbors regarding the Armoury Commons Apartments near the corner of Spring and Pearl streets and set up surveillance on the area about 10:15 a.m., Springfield police Sgt. John Delaney told CBS 3.

"This park is ironically around the corner of police headquarters. Recently, officers on their way to work have made arrests of the dealers who were in the middle of dealing the drug," Delaney said.

Two dealers were spotted right away selling heroin near a dumpster, Delaney said.

"Two customers were also arrested as they were leaving the park to shoot up their purchased items," Delaney said.

The two dealers, identified as Miguel Toledo, 57, of 34 Calhoun St., Springfield and Jesus Ramos, 32, of 10 Chestnut St., Springfield, were charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute, violation of a drug-free park zone, and conspiracy, according to an arrest report.

Detectives confiscated 150 bags of heroin and $300 cash from Toledo and Ramos, Delaney said.

The buyers, identified as Jose Sepulveda, 47, of 769 Worthington St., Springfield, which is a homeless shelter, and Matthew Young, 25, of 25 St. James Ave., Springfield, were charged with possession of heroin, the arrest report indicated.

They had purchased six bags of heroin, Delaney said.

"Narcotics detectives will constantly monitor this park and make sure nobody sells drugs at this location," Delaney said.

All four suspects were walked to the Springfield Police Department lockup. They will be arraigned in Springfield District Court on Friday.
