GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Volunteers with the American Red Cross are assisting dozens of families after apartments were damaged in the flooding Saturday night and into Sunday morning.

Beverly Major woke up to sounds of rushing water and got up around 11 p.m. to see that her floors were soaking wet.

A total of 80 apartments at the Lakeside Place Apartments, plus a couple of other complexes on Villa Road, were damaged in the flood, according to John Wareham, chief public affairs officer with The American Red Cross of the Western Carolinas.

Wareham said Red Cross volunteers will provide assistance to those families and distribute cleanup kits, which include items such as work gloves, mops and cleaning products.

Red Cross officials said they will send case workers to the complexes on Monday to see how individuals have been affected and cater to their needs.
