Deputy escapes flooded patrol car through window

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, SC (AP) -

A Greenville County deputy had to escape from his patrol car through a window after the vehicle stalled out in heavy flood waters Saturday night.

Jonathan Smith with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office said the deputy was attempting to turn into the Greenville County Law Enforcement Center from the Park Avenue entrance when his patrol vehicle suddenly stopped.

Smith said the flood waters rose quickly, and almost covered the vehicle.

The deputy was able to get out of the vehicle by crawling out the window, Smith said.

The patrol car was a total loss.
