GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Utility crews, Greenville police and rescue crews were excavating an area near where a sinkhole was reported at Haywood and Airport roads after searchers discovered a van trapped beneath the roadway.

Capt. Mike Madden with the Greenville Police Department confirmed that flood waters pulled a van into a culvert Saturday night, causing the vehicle to get lodged in a pipe.

The van was removed from the sinkhole around 4 p.m. Monday.

Madden said the van was unoccupied.

Search crews had been scouring the creek beds and sewer drains for a man who was seen, along with a woman who was later found dead, being swept away by flood waters Saturday night.

The man's body was found in a pond nearby on Monday afternoon.

On July 31, that same area was shut down after a sinkhole opened following another period of heavy rain and storms.
