SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Parents and two babysitters have been charged after a toddler was found wandering in a Spartanburg County road, according to the sheriff's office.

Just after 9 a.m. on Monday, deputies were called to the 1600 block of Hayne Street for the report of a child found walking in the roadway, according to incident reports provided by the sheriff's office.

The report said the 2-year-old child was brought to the hospital for a wellness checkup as officers canvassed the neighborhood to locate the child's parents.

Deputies located the people responsible for taking care of the children at 11:10 a.m., according to the report.

The people were identified as Raymond Headley, 19, and Alysha Childers, 18, the child's babysitter.

Deputies said the two could only provide the name of the child's mother. They said they had been contacted through Facebook to babysit the child, according to the report.

Childers said the only way she could contact the child's mother was through Facebook, according to the report. Deputies said there was no phone number or emergency contact information for her.

Deputies said due to the statement given by Childers and Raymond, the condition of their home and the fact that the child left their home without their knowledge, they obtained warrants against them for unlawful neglect of a child.

The report said the child was taken into emergency protective custody.

Deputies met with the mother, Margaret Ray, 28, who admitted to meeting the babysitters through a Facebook app, according to the report.

The mother told deputies she met the babysitters in person and inspected the home prior to allowing them to watch her child, the report said.

The report said deputies learned the woman's 8-year-old son was left alone for several hours during the day.

Deputies said the child was in immediate danger and placed him in emergency protective custody, according to the report.

Ray and the children's father, Joshua Mayhew, 30, were charged with two counts of unlawfully neglect of a child.

The babysitters, Headley and Childers, were charged with one count of unlawful neglect of a child.
