Oro Valley bank robbery has police searching for suspect

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON, AZ (TNN) –The sight of police greeted Jesse Camarena as he picked up his fiance from work at Wells Fargo in Oro Valley Tuesday night. And then, his phone rang.

"I picked it up when I parked around here because I was like, what's going on. She's like, I didn't want to tell you over the phone, but, I figured I would just tell you now, that we've been robbed," Camarena said.

"He had entered the bank, had a brief interaction with the teller, provided her with a note, demanding money and implying a weapon, she provided him with that, he then fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of money," said Oro Valley Police Sgt. Dean Nesbitt.

Oro Valley police said they received a distress signal from the bank about 5:15 Tuesday night. They say the robbery suspect is an African American man about 6-feet-2-inches to 6-feet-4-inches tall and slender. They say he was wearing a long sleeve sweatshirt with a Bob Marley symbol on it. They say the teller acted correctly, even if the man did not show a gun

"He might not, but, we don't know that. And she doesn't know that.. Just because it wasn't displayed, it was still inferred, he could still have that and should she try to argue, or be a confrontation with a suspect, we have no idea what their reaction is going to be," Sgt. Nesbitt said.

Camarena's fiance eventually came out to meet him. Jaque Serrano-Garcia is also a lead teller at the bank, and was at the next window during the robbery.

"I'm not nervous at all. I think my team handled it exactly as it should have been, andthat'ss why nobody got hurt. And I'm happy that we were prepared and we had all the tools to do so," Serrano-Garcia said.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911, 88-CRIME, or 520-229-4900.
