Mauldin High teacher takes top honors for Greenville Co. Schools

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Mauldin High School band director took home top honors at the Greenville County Schools award ceremony on Thursday.

Band and music appreciation teacher Adam Scheuch was named GCS Teacher of the Year. Scheuch has taught for 15 years after earning a bachelor's degree from Furman University and a master's from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago.

Scheuch has served as band director at Mauldin since 2004. In 2011, he took the band to New Orleans to perform during the half-time show at the Super Bowl.

Other teachers honored at Thursday's event included: 

  • First Runner-up - David Evett, special education, Tanglewood Middle
  • Second Runner-up - Grant Hunter, mathematics, Wade Hampton High
  • Third Runner-up - Jake Gambrell, second grade, Oakview Elementary
  • Elementary Emerging Teacher of the Year - Ashley Bentley, fifth grade, Greenbrier Elementary 
  • Secondary Emerging Teacher of the Year - Jessica Richardson, Spanish, Travelers Rest High
