News Channel 11 is joining in on the movement.

Thursday, News Channel 11 challenged Team Wandell of Carter County, TN to take the #IceBucketChallenge.

Dr. Josh Wandell is a popular elementary school principal who's battling the incurable disease. Dr. Wandell serves as principal at East Side Elementary School. The average life expectancy after diagnosis is 2 to 5 years, and the cost of care is estimated at $200,000 per year.

The ALS Association says donations have been pouring in since the challenge started.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. Since the Ice Bucket Challenge started on July 29, The ALS Association has welcomed more than 70,000 new monetary donors.

ALSA reports there is only one drug approved by the US Food and Drug Administration to treat ALS. The drug extends survival by two to three months.

ALS causes a person to lose control of voluntary muscle movement. People with the disease progressively lose their ability to eat, speak, walk, and breathe.
