PICKENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Liberty man wounded in an Easley shooting drove himself to the hospital on Wednesday, followed by the accused gunman who was also injured, according to deputies.

Pickens County deputies said they were called to Cannon Hospital about 7:30 p.m. about the gunshot victim.

Deputies said the victim, 24-year-old Phillip Valentine, was shot in the leg at a home on Robert P. Jeanes Road 45 minutes earlier.

Witnesses told investigators that Valentine and Jeremy Basquette, 21, showed up at the home to see other people there but did not know each other, according to Chief Deputy Creed Hashe.

Hashe said the men got into a fight that turned physical. Arrest warrants state that Basquette pulled a pistol from his pants' pocket, firing four or five shots at the victim.

Then at 8 p.m., Basquette showed up at the hospital to get treatment for a cut on the back of his head, where he was taken into custody, Hashe said.

Basquette was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Valentine was treated and released, deputies said.
