BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

A trooper from the North Carolina Highway Patrol has resigned following his arrest by the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office.

Former trooper William B. Thompson resigned Thursday after he was arrested for DWI around 11:30 Wednesday night, according to a spokeswoman from the Department of Public Safety.

Thompson, a 19-year veteran, was part of Troop B, District 9 Motor Carrier Enforcement Office located in Fayetteville.

Following his arrest he was immediately place on investigatory placement according to the spokeswoman.
