Sheriff's office identifies victim of fatal Jackson Co. house fire

CULLOWHEE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies and firefighters are investigating a Cullowee house fire after a body was found inside.

Jackson County deputies said the Highway 107 house fire was reported to 911 at 5:38 a.m. on Thursday.

The Cullowee, Sylva, Canada and Cashiers fire departments responded to fire.

The victim was identified as 32-year-old Jennifer Lee Ludwig, of Cullowee, who is also known as "JLee Mayer," according to the sheriff's office.

Another person home at the time of the fire was transported to the hospital where he was treated and later released, according to the sheriff's office.

Officials said the cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner next week.

The fire and death are under investigation by the fire marshal, Jackson County Sheriff's Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations.
