AUBURN, AL (WSFA) -

A woman was arrested in Auburn on Friday after she tried to walk out of a business without paying for the merchandise she had picked up.

The Auburn Police Department arrested 21-year-old Samaria E. Vanderbilt after she was observed shoplifting from a business in the 1700 block of S. College Street.

Police officers responded to the business at 1 p.m. where they were informed that Vanderbilt was observed placing assorted merchandise totaling over $900 into two duffle bags and placing them in a shopping cart with a flat screen television. She then attempted to exit the store without paying for the items.

Vanderbilt was then detained by a loss prevention officer until police arrived at the scene.

The property was recovered and returned to the store, and Vanderbilt was placed in custody and charged with second degree theft of property.

Vanderbilt was transported to the Lee County Jail and is being held on a $3,000 bond.
