NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Nashville man battling cancer boarded a tour bus Tuesday heading for Texas and a possible cure.

When cancer patient Jim Cabbage and his family could not get answers in Nashville, friends and strangers came to his rescue.

Twins Bailey and Jordan Cabbage, 9, may only have days left with their father.

"Not everybody gets cancer like this and dies like this," Bailey Cabbage said. "We've probably all been sick, but we've gotten better."

"I've been saying, 'Dear God, help my father,' and hope for the best," Jordan Cabbage added.

Tuesday, hope rolled up to the Cabbages' home in the form of a donated tour bus promoting an upcoming Blake Shelton and Dierks Bentley concert.

"This is something I did not see coming," Jordan Cabbage said.

Michelle Cabbage said she recently had to face the reality that her husband's last days could be upon them, despite nearly a year of cancer treatment.

"He had lost so much weight," Michelle Cabbage said. "He has visible tumors, you can see them. It's been very hard."

Jim Cabbage's college roommate was not going to give up the fight. Sunday, he turned to his church for help.

According to friends, Jim Cabbage was originally misdiagnosed. Doctors said he did not have a very aggressive form of cancer and it could be treated in six months. Doctors later determined he actually had lymphoma.

In only two days, the church worked to book a free bus ride for the Cabbage family to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, a top cancer hospital.

"This is just going to be great," Michelle Cabbage said. "He's got a stateroom. We got bunks, we got a kitchen, we got a driver. We're going to wake up tomorrow and we're going to be in Texas."

Jim Cabbage boarded the bus Tuesday full of hope.
