Clemson police have arrested a man they said assaulted and choked a woman until she was unconscious.

Police said on Aug. 9 around 8:45 p.m. they responded to Falls Landing Apartments on Old Central Road where the victim told officers she was outside her apartment when someone came from behind her and dragged her inside her apartment.

Once inside, the suspect choked the woman until she was unconscious, which she regained in time to see the man trying to steal a TV, according to police.

Police identified the suspect as Charnel Johnson, of Pickens, who was arrested by Pickens County deputies just after midnight early on Wednesday.

Johnson was charged with first-degree burglary and high and aggravated assault and battery.
