Three black bows front the Union Springs Police Department this week.

The bows are in memory of Union Springs Police Chief Danny Jackson's daughter, 27-year old Brittany Foster, and in support of Jackson.

"There are no words for it," Jackson said.

Foster was shot and killed early Sunday morning in Columbus, MS. Foster would have turned 28 later this month.

As a veteran lawman, Jackson often found himself with families who've lost loved ones to violence. Never did he believe he would be dealing with the same unspeakable pain of losing a child to violence.

"I could see the hurt in their face but when it hits close to home and it's your child. That's devastating," said Jackson.

Police in Mississippi charged 25-year old Tarkesha Carter with murder and attempted assault. Investigators say Carter shot Foster in the parking lot outside of Buffalo Wild Wings and shot at another woman who was with Foster but she was not struck.

Police aren't releasing the motive in the case but Carter reportedly knew both women.

Jackson is taking time off from the Union Springs Police Department, planning a funeral and admitted it could be awhile before he reaches that place of forgiveness.

Carter reportedly surrendered at the scene and confessed to the crimes.

"The human side of me wants to hate but I am a Christian and I know God doesn't make mistakes," Jackson said.

Chief Jackson believes in the end this will make him a better investigator, better in the sense of understanding of what victims' families go through.

Brittany Foster's wake is set for 5 p.m. Friday at the Bullock County Vo-Tech School and her funeral begins at noon Saturday at the Union Springs Baptist Church.
