MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Pet waste stations are going up around Montgomery. The stations provide bags for dog owners to pick up after their pets.

There will be six around the city. You'll find them at Ida Belle Young Park, Shakespeare, Buddy Watson Park, Cloverdale park and eventually downtown.

The group that secured a grant to pay for the project says the waste stations should help prevent water contamination.

"Our group is really concerned with water quality and making sure all our rivers and streams are clean and fishable, swimmable and available to communities to use for drinking water. We know that these pet waste stations keep pollutants out of the water," said Project Coordinator Dawn Stephens.

The group has also printed up door hangers and the Boy Scouts is helping put those in the surrounding neighborhoods.
