Week zero high school football preview

High school football is back and FOX Carolina crews will be in the stadiums and on the sidelines to recap the action for Friday Night Blitz. Week zero coverage begins at 10:30 p.m. on air and throughout the evening on FOXCarolina.com and FOX Carolina's Facebook and Twitter pages.

Game of the Week

FOX Carolina's Chris Scott and Kendra Kent will provide live reports from the site of the season's first Game of the Week, a non-region game between the class AA Chesnee Eagles and AAA Broome Centurions. Seventh ranked Chesnee is hoping to earn a second straight win over Broome after defeating the Centurions 29-21 last year.

District officials pushed back the start of the game to 8 p.m. after a special service to honor three students who recently passed away takes place at the stadium.


Byrnes heads to Northwestern for a non-region game. Northwestern went undefeated last season to become the class AAAA Division II state champs last season. This season Northwestern is ranked second and Byrnes is third in AAAA rankings. The game will air on ESPNU.

Tenth ranked Spartanburg hosts the Eastern Christian Academy, visiting the Upstate all the way from Maryland for the non-region match up.

Sixth ranked class AAAA Gaffney heads to Union County (AAA) for a non-region game, where the Indians hope to earn their 11th straight win over the Yellow Jackets.

Clover heads to Westside for a non-region game. The teams have not met since 2009, with Clover taking the win in both previous match-ups between the schools.

AAAA Easley is hoping to pick up a fifth straight win over AAA rivals Pickens. The game begins at 8 p.m. in Pickens.


Clinton heads to Columbia to face A.C. Flora: in a non-region class AAA game. Clinton edged over A.C. Flora 55-35 in the first round of the playoffs last year.

AAA Southside heads to Ware Shoals (class A) for a non-region game. Southside had it's first winning season since 2008 last year, finishing 6-5.


17th ranked Ninety Six heads to Greenville to face St. Joseph's (class A).

Tenth ranked Abbeville heads to Aiken to face fifth ranked Silver Bluff for the first time in more than a decade.


Number one ranked class A Christ Church Episcopal is on the road to face Lee Central (AA). The Christ Church Cavaliers are the defending class A champions, a title the team has kept for three consecutive seasons.

Calhoun Falls Charter will face Dixie for a non-region match. The two schools will face off again in region 1-A play later in the season.
