FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

A man wanted for the murder of 58-year-old Wendy Jean Johnson in Cary Friday night was arrested in Fayetteville late Saturday night, according to authorities.

Cary police contacted the Fayetteville Police Department around 11 p.m. Saturday in reference to Daniel Scott Remington, 36.

In coordination with Cary police, authorities went to a residence on the 300 block of Faison Avenue in an attempt to locate Remington.

Remington was not found at the residence, but his vehicle was at the residence. Officers set up a perimeter and began searching the area.

Remington was seen on foot in the area of Owen Drive and Hunter Circle and fled upon seeing the officers.

A police K-9 was used to track Remington to the rear of a residence on Hunter Circle, where Remington was arrested.

Those who know the accused murderer are shocked by the charges he faces.

"It's stunning," said one of Remington's neighbor and friends.  "I don't believe he did it so we will just have to see."
Remington is being held in the Wake County jail under no bond.  He is scheduled to appear before a judge on Monday, August 25th.

Johnson, of Sanford, was found shot with life-threatening injuries Friday around 11 p.m. at 202 Hyde Park Court in Cary. She died at Duke Medical Center.

It was the fourth murder in Cary this year.

* On March 29, Eriberto Crecencio Bosques was fatally shot by Rumaldo Ramirez Velasquez at a laundromat on Reed Street.

* In February, Eric Paul Engel came from out of state to shoot Aleksander “Lenny” Wysocki at his home on Trent Woods Way

* Also in February, Kevin Leroy Bodden killed his brother, Mark Gregory Bodden, at Talking Rock Drive

Danielle Schnurr, who heard the gunshot and discovered she knew the victim, said Johnson was a nurse who was coming to care for Schnurr's disabled 6-year-old daughter.
