TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -

A Maricopa County sheriff's deputy suffered minor injuries after he collided with a taxi in Tempe early Sunday morning.

Tempe police stated speed was not a factor, but numerous witnesses said the deputy was traveling at a very high rate of speed without any emergency equipment activated when the crash occurred at Rural Road and Apache Drive.

The deputy was working with the eastside DUI task force when the cab driver pulled out of a Chevron service station and failed to yield, Tempe police said.

The cab driver, who had to be pulled out of the wrecked taxi, was taken to the hospital for a precautionary evaluation, MCSO spokesman Joaquin Enriquez said.

No names have been released yet.
